Things to do and Places to go!

HAUTEFORT - Just 10 minutes away and 40 km east of Perigueux, Hautefort has both one of the most prestigious castles in Dordogne and a thriving, pretty village offering many bars and restaurants. Spend a day exploring both the castle and the impressive gardens surrounding it as well as wandering the beautiful little lanes, perhaps pausing for an ice cream!

EXCIDEUIL - 15 minutes from us you will find this lovely market town. It boasts a thriving market every Thursday, a Castle dating back to the 12th century and bars, restaurants and shops. We can recommend several cafes and restaurants.

PERIGUEUX - The main sights of Perigueux, the capital of the Dordogne, can be seen on an easy walk around the city centre. You can pick up a map from the tourist office. The town has been in existence since neolithic times and is one of our favourites! Many places to choose from for a delicious meal. 40 minutes from us.

ROUFFIAC LEISURE CENTRE - Set in acres of preserved parkland there are many activities available here including swimming, fishing, walks and water sports.

TOURTOIRAC - 10 minutes away, this is a picturesque little village on the banks of the river Auvezere with plenty of picnic spots and paddling opportunities. There are also a couple of bars and restaurants. On the outskirts you will find the splendid Grottes de Tourtoirac. You can see the beautiful stalagmites and stalactites illuminated. A great place to go on a very hot day as it is nice and cool!

CYCLING IN THE DORDOGNE - This area of the Dordogne is magical on two wheels - quiet back road routes, river rides and mountain bike trails combine to offer something for all kinds of cyclists. Spend a day riding the voie verte traffic-free route from Thiviers to St Jean de Cole (one of France's most beautiful villages), or discover some of the 1000km of mountain bike trails in the region.

We offer big, hearty breakfasts to keep you going all day, and can also offer packed lunches for your panniers. Arriving on your own bike? No problem, we have a large barn for bike parking plus a wash down area in case your bike needs a clean or some running repair.

Need bike hire? Again, no problem. We can arrange for bikes for all ages and abilities to be delivered to the door by our partners at Dordogne Cycle Hire.

This really is just a tiny slice of the numerous places to go and things to do nearby. We are happy to help with directions and ideas to help you make the most of your stay. Don't forget though, if it all gets too busy just come home to us and sit and chill in the garden!

CANOEING - Literally on our doorstep, again I can arrange this for you! You will be taken from the end of our road to the river where you canoe down the Auvezere to Tourtoirac and then be brought back by minibus. This is organised by Vert Auvezere.

FOOD & DRINK! - Much has been written about great food and wine in France and specifically from the Dordogne, famous for a cuisine rich in produce unique to the area. Think of good wine, foie gras, duck and goose, ceps, cheese and walnuts and you have the basis for some superb dishes and memorable meals.

SARLAT - A picturesque tangle of honey-coloured buildings, alleyways and secret squares make up the beautiful town of Sarlat-la-Canéda which boasts some of the region’s best-preserved medieval architecture. Very busy in the summer but at  just under an hour from us by car it is well worth a visit.
